How I Save Money | Part 2

Hi again!

Today, I will be talking to you guys about the second way I save money. Before I tell you, I'll give you a few clues and we'll see if you can guess it! Hint 1: It's a mobile app. Hint 2: You can scan your receipts to earn cash back. Hmm... Sounds like Walmart Savings Catcher, doesn't it? ;) 

If you guessed ibotta, you're correct! ibotta is a super cool app that allows you to earn cash back on your purchases. There are three different ways to earn cash back on this app: Send Receipts, Link a Loyalty Card, and Mobile In-App Purchases. Due to my lifestyle, I only use the send receipts method, so that is what I will be sharing with you today. Here's how it works. 

 

Once you've downloaded the app and created your account, you can start searching for offers in your area. You can find offers by category or by store. As I mentioned in my previous post, I typically only shop at Walmart, so I always just browse through theirs. When you find an item you would like to receive cash back on, you click the pink plus sign by that item. You may have to answer a simple survey question or watch a short ad to receive that offer. Once you're done, it will go into your "My Offers" sections. You can add as many offers as you'd like!

Then it's time to go shopping! Offers do expire so don't forget to redeem them before they're gone. After you purchase your items, you click "Redeem" on your ibotta app. It will ask you where you made your purchase, and then it will tell you to scan the QR code at the bottom of your receipt. Once you've taken the photo, they will match the items you bought to the offers you selected. Your cash back will be deposited into your ibotta account within 48 hours. It's that simple! 

ibotta allows you to withdraw your cash once you accumulate $20. You can either get the money sent to your PayPal or venmo account, or you can have the amount transferred to a gift card to participating retailers. You're probably thinking that it would take a while to earn $20. That's because I haven't told you about the Welcome Bonus yet! A welcome bonus is an introductory bonus or set of bonuses reserved for new registered users of ibotta. You don't get a bonus just for signing up but you do get a bonus when you try out the app. When I signed up, the Welcome Bonus was $10, if I redeemed an offer within a week of signing up. However, the bonuses do change from time to time so be sure to check what the offer is when you create your account.

One last thing about this sweet app, is that they reward you for referring friends! The incentive does change now and then, however, I've never seen them offer less than $5 per person you refer. That's pretty awesome! This month, they are offering cash match. So if you invite friends in April, whatever they earn, you also earn. Plus, they will give you an extra $5 for each friend that tries the app. You can invite friends through the app by email, text, Facebook, or Twitter with your referral code.
